Wild Lunch Club

Friday. Woods. Fire. Food. Good company.

overview

Wild Lunch Club is a relaxed two-hour Friday gathering for men who want to get outdoors, use their hands and share good food around a fire.

Led by Wild Roots founder Phil Briggs, whose background has taken him from the Royal Marines and years working in the outdoors to his own experience of cancer and recovery, it’s built around a simple idea: sometimes we feel better when we stop talking about feeling better and simply get outside and do something.

We make fire. We cook. We eat.

Together, the group builds and lights the fire, prepares a healthy, hearty lunch and cooks it in one big pot over the flames. While it bubbles away, we make flatbreads from scratch, kneading the dough, shaping the breads and cooking them on a skillet over the fire.

Then we sit down and eat what we’ve made.

Phil is there to guide, host and keep everything safe, but everyone plays a part. There’s something deeply satisfying about building a fire, making food with your own hands and sharing it with other people.

There’s no organised therapy, no pressure to share and no need to be particularly outdoorsy or especially fit. Conversation can happen naturally while hands are busy and lunch is cooking, or you can simply enjoy being there.

Fire. Food. Fresh air. Good company.
